Caught in the Flames by Kacey Shea

I have to admit, when I first started reading Caught in the Flames, I almost didn’t make it through the book … because Chase. Is. An. Ass.

However, I kept on truckin’ and I am so glad I did!  Because there is an HEA and I love that Callie found it – with the right person. In hind sight, I realize that Callie is just human. Like all of us have experienced at one time or another in life, she has a blind sight as a result of love (or what she believes to be love). She’s real. And that’s what makes her such a great character.

Callie is relatable. And so is Ash. Their trials are relatable. Even Chase is relatable. Because Chase’s exist everywhere and it takes a strong woman to recognize the Chase’s of the world and walk away to find something wonderful. Just like Callie did.

I can’t wait to see where the series takes us. I definitely want to see Chase get what’s coming to him. And part of me even wants to fall in love with Alicia, though right now, I still don’t like her. :)

Another great book by Kacey Shea. Keep on bringing the magic!

I was really excited to read this newest book by Kacey Shea! I've really enjoyed her other books, and I was excited to see that she had a firefighter themed book (if you've seen any posts by Kacey you know she loves firemen!). I've always loved firemen as a hero in my books and love discovering new ones.
This book drew me in from the first page. You are so excited to see this new path of Callie's life. Her new house, her job, & her friends are part of what makes her life so exciting. It's also exciting to see that she gets to live so close to her ideal fantasy.
I love all the characters in the book. I think Kacey created such realistic and lovable people. Callie's friends & family were brilliant. I spent half the book wishing they were real so they could be my friends as well. I'm seriously hoping she continues with stories about some of these secondary characters.
Kacey did such a good job at making me feel a variety of emotions throughout the book, and I think that was one of the reasons I had a hard time putting the book down. I spent a great deal of the book laughing and giggling, and there were moments where I was just crushed along with Callie. I feel like the book moved you constantly and there wasn't any one moment where I just was so frustrated with it that I couldn't continue.

I will be telling everyone about this book for the foreseeable future. It was just so amazing and I'm so glad that Kacey wrote this one.

Happily Ever all Star by Susie Frost is live!

Can you fake a happily-ever-after?

Veteran running back Jude Owens is one of the best and most respected players in the league. A brutal concussion nearly ended his career, but Jude refuses to retire without earning the ultimate honor—a championship.

But first, he needs me to clear him to play. As the Ironfield Rivets’ neurologist, I usually treat bad boy quarterbacks and beastly linebackers. I can’t be impartial when my lifelong crush hops onto the exam table. Not only is Jude gorgeous and a gentleman, he’s my brother’s best friend…and the father of my unborn baby.

Or so everyone thinks.

Jude offers to pose as my boyfriend and the baby’s father to save my reputation. In return, he needs my help to stay on the field. The pretend romance keeps me close enough to take care of him, but I can’t protect my heart. Our stolen kisses and nightly indiscretions make this fake relationship feel so very real.

I can’t complicate our arrangement by falling in love, especially as Jude’s obsession with football blinds him to everything but the game. When his symptoms worsen, the only way I can protect him may be to sit him on the sidelines. But ending his career will ruin our Once Upon A Time.

It’s up to me to save my prince charming.
Even if it means I lose my happily-ever-after.

Protection Crisis by Rochelle Paige

Today, I finished reading Protection Crisis by Rochelle Paige which was a nice break from the real world - short and sweet with just the right amount of angst and a HEA. You seriously can't go wrong!

Chloe has a stalker to which Kael is supposed to protect her from - instantly creating an intense situation bringing feelings to the surface much quicker than normal.  I realize it was an Insta-Love situation, but it felt like they came together a little too quickly (even if it was sweet) ans I do have to admit, I wished there was a little more character development. Seemly, everything was very rushed from the moment they met, so for me, it didn't give me the opportunity to really fall in love with the characters and feel what they felt.

That being said, I think Rochelle did a good job with this Novella but I would have loved to see what she could have done with a full length novel! If you like novellas with a hot alpha, this book is for you. Displaying Protection Crisis front cover smoke.jpgDisplaying Protection Crisis front cover smoke.jpg

The newest reading obsession in my life....fanfiction!

Hey guysssss,
So first off, I need to say that I'm so sorry that we've been slacking on the blog posts :(. Recently life has been getting in the way for both Jamie & myself, but I promise (sorry Jamie I'm promising for you too!) that we'll both be better at getting posts up!

Second, this post is slightly different than the others. It still deals with reading and my favorite authors, however this time it is not for books, but for fanfiction.

I figured that it would be a great thing to blog about since one of the best known romance series, Fifty Shades of Grey, was originally written as a Twilight fanfiction.  I have to tell y'all (and it is one of my romance bookworm shames) that I have NOT read the Fifty Shades of Grey series. I'm not actually sure why I haven't. I've only heard really good things from my friends who did read it, and all of my favorite authors love & rave about it as well.  I just never wanted to read it. It did pop into my mind as I was contemplating writing this post about fanfictions, and I think it just goes to show that there are a lot of very talented writers out there who have yet to be discovered (or maybe they don't want to be). Due to the attention that fanfiction is getting these days because of FSoG's success, I decided to write about my newest reading distraction...and it really is a distraction!

This year, I finally gave into my friends and started watching Supernatural. Well ask any of my friends and family and you'll find out that it quickly took over my life and became a slight (or you know, a not so slight -___-) obesssion. To be fair though I had to catch up with ELEVEN seasons!!! While I was watching the show I would go on Pinterest to pin quotes or fan theories as I went through each episode.  As I was watching (& pinning), I definitely became a part of the fandom, which if you spend any time on the internet you will see that it includes a vast and never ending group of people. One of the things that I came across was the Destiel (Dean & Castiel) relationship. They quickly became my OTP (one true pairing) and I was constantly looking for clues in the show that would prove they love each other (THEY DO!! I don't care if you feel differently :)).  I also searched the internet for others who felt the same as me and there are many!
In my searches, I came across fan art & references to fanfiction (I may have a whole board on Pinterest dedicated to them). Granted, I had heard of fanfiction before, but I had never encountered anything interesting enough to make me delve into that community.  One day, I just decided to give in to my curiosities and see what it was all about.
I started by looking up fanfictions where Dean & Cas were married and had kids.  I mean the whole idea of this super tough, emotionally stunted (well slightly) hunter and this socially awkward angel being parents was too cute to not check it out. Well from there it quickly spiraled (I believe I've told friends it's like falling down the rabbit hole) and I discovered the many, many, many different stories that people have written about this couple. I definitely have favorite authors (fanfiction.net, archiveofourown.org, and devianart.com) and artists (only on deviantart) on the various sites I listed.

Like any book that you will read, there are some authors who are AMAZING and I devour their fics like I'm starving.  Then there are authors that, while they have a great idea...it just doesn't come across the way they want it to, or its just poorly written.

I have to say that the first fanfiction that I read (and have re-read already) was 'Home in Motion' by nomdeplume1313 (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8105251/1/Home-In-Motion). It was a really great story and it stayed pretty true to the series and the characters. I also really liked that it had multiple spin offs dealing with the same story line.

Since then I have discovered a bunch of authors and stories that I've liked.  I also have come across a bunch of different couples that would have never crossed my mind, like Crobby (Crowley & Bobby) and Sabriel (Sam & Gabriel, I'm sorry for those who ship them but it's just weird to me).  I have also discovered other pairings from other shows and books. One that was a new one and kinda weird to me was Drarry (Harry Potter & Draco Malfoy).

After fanfiction I fell into the world of fan art. There are SOOOO many talented artists out there. I can't believe how people are able to draw this couple! If you want to see more you should go to deviantart.com and search Destiel. Some of it is a bit raunchy, but it's clear that all of the artists are very talented.

Honestly, I think that fanfiction is a great way to explore the world of unknown writers.  It's also a great way to find and connect with other people who are fans of the same things you are. It may get a little weird, but honestly some of them are the nicest people that I've come across.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my ranting about my new love! And please go check out some of my favorite stories! I'll add some links at the end.

Until next time!

between friends,
L

Hook & Ladder 69

I was very excited to see that we were going to receive an ARC of Hook & Ladder 69. It was AMAZING! It has 18 short stories (none take more than 10-15 minutes to read) about the men & women of Fire Station 69. I really liked that throughout the book you saw the appearance of characters from previous chapters. I also liked that the stories definitely drew you into them. I feel like some of them left on cliffhangers...but I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that the author will choose to continue the stories!!!
Another things that was seriously wonderful about the book was that because it is a collection of short stories you are able to read a story or two, and if the real world comes a-calling you can stop and not feel like you stopped in the middle of a crucial moment and that you're dying to get back to it! (I mean it will definitely call you back to the story...but it has great stopping points!)
I only had read 2 of the authors from the book before, Kacey Shea and Mary Catherine Gebhard. I definitely discovered some new authors that I'm dying to check out soon! For me the best part of reading an anthology is the ability to discover new authors and see if you like their writing style! After I finished reading it I definitely went online and stalked several authors and their books have been added to my TBR.
A great aspect of the book (for me at least) is that the proceeds are donated to The Burned Children Recovery Foundation. There's nothing better than being able to indulge in your hobby & be able to help someone at the same time...and lets be honest, I will always happily use any excuse to buy and read new books!
Please be sure to check out this book! It's currently available for 99 cents....you won't be disappointed!!! 😊😊
Until next time

Until June - a two for one special!

I have been impatiently waiting for this book since I read Until July last year! (I mean I even tweeted & asked her how long I'd have to wait😳🙈)I couldn't wait to see what happened with June & Evan; what broke them up & especially what Evan would do (you know an ARR alpha would do something to make up for it) to get her back. I think that's one of the things that I love the most about an ARR book. She gives you (at least it gives me) major butterflies in my stomach when the H/h interact, and for me that moment when your stomach drops or you feel those butterflies....it just makes the book for me.
I was not disappointed. As always ARR gives you all the feels with your over the top alpha man & his love for his woman. The story flowed well and I didn't want to put it down to participate in the real world. I was surprised that the usual drama aspect of an ARR story was missing. I never feel like the drama in the book is overwhelming, but there is usually a continuous problem throughout that was missing this time around. Instead there were several small problems that they had to deal with throughout the book. I found it to be different but I didn't hate it. I like when there's something different in a series.
It is an amazing book & I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves ARR!!
- L

Another great book by ARR. She brings you in from the beginning of her books and it was no different with June and Evan. I loved that it was mostly about them with a little bit of drama here and there. (Though I did miss the standard ARR drama we have come to love!) Until June also touches on sensitive subjects but still demonstrates that they are real for people and you can get through it. So many relate-able topics in this read between love and family, both the ones we are born into and the ones we create. This is one of the reasons I loved Until June so much!  As always, seeking the characters from the original Until series is always a treat!!

I laughed and teared up, cringed and smiled throughout this book. I needed a good book after a long work trip and this was the perfect break from reality! It also made me eager for both Sage AND Ashlyn's books!!!

Thanks, ARR, for another amazing work of art.
